About Jennifer and Rupp Ranch

When Jennifer was 2 years old her mom bought her a little Breyer® Model Horse at a local store in Sunnyvale, CA. She still has that model horse and her passion for horses to this day.

After many years of riding all of the neighbors horses and ponies she could find, Jennifer's parents signed her up for riding lessons on her 9th birthday at Indian Hill Ranch in Milpitas, CA. She was the first student of Appaloosa Hall Of Fame Lloyd Donley’s, son Carl Donley. They had a great connection, and Jennifer quickly excelled in her riding and started showing. By the end of 1981, they were looking for a suitable Appaloosa show horse for her and found it in a 3 year old daughter of Hall Of Famer Bright Chip. It was an instant connection, and they even shared birthdates.

The partnership of Jennifer and Chip-Z Rose Lee would span across 16 years. "The greatest teacher in my life has been Chip-Z. She not only taught me to ride and train, she taught me so many life lessons I carry on with me throughout my life today." Chip-Z and Jennifer earned 3 National Championship top tens, many ApHC National Year End awards, over 50 California Appaloosa State Championship titles, and countless open shows wins. "Chip-Z and I knew each other so well that one of my favorite ways to practice was late at night in the indoor arena, I would ride with no saddle or bridle and my eyes closed. We were that in sync with every stride". Chip-Z and Jennifer competed in an amazing number of events together: showmanship, western pleasure/equitation, trail, english pleasure/equitation, hunter hack, hunt seat, jumping, western riding, reining, cutting, dressage, poles, barrels, and team penning. They also spent hundreds of hours trail riding. Jennifer even taught Chip-Z some tricks such as kisses, bowing, rearing, shaking hands, changing leads every stride, and the Spanish walk. Jennifer also rode and owned other horses as a youth, but they didn't compare to Chip-Z, she was a one in a million horse with a big heart.

As Jennifer moved out of the youth classes into Non Pro, she decided to head down the path of a Trainer. She was hired at Indian Hill Ranch to train horses as well as care for boodmares, foals, and other ranch chores. She also had a few private training clients of her own, including a youth rider. Jennifer then took a great opportunity as assistant to World Champion Quarter Horse trainer Greg Whalen. That was a wonderful experience in the Halter Horse world and she gained a wealth of knowledge about breeding programs. Jennifer then came back to Indian Hill and again took on some clients of her own and also rode some horses for a few of the Reining Trainers in the area. Jennifer also helped out at shows for top Quarter Horse trainer Tim Whitney. In 1995 she moved to Southern California with a friend, to broaden her education and skills. She went to work for an Arabian and National Show Horse barn. While boarding her own horses at a nice facility in Redlands, she had many people ask her for her help with their horses, so she moved on to open her own sucessful training business. Jennifer worked with many breeds, Quarter Horses, Paints, Appaloosas, Arabians, Thoroughbreds, Trakehners, Hanoverians, Saddlebreds, Missouri Fox Trotters, Friesians and probably some others thrown in. To say Jennifer is well rounded as trainer and in horsemanship, would be an understatement. Her training techiques are very open to the type of horse she is working with. She works on a base of trust and patience, natural horsemanship and show ring techniques, and really gets to know the horse so she can build a training plan around him. She has had great success and happy clients in and out of the show ring.

As Jennifer became a Mom she decided to slow down in the professional world of training and in 2001 she got her ApHC Non Pro Card back and went back to showing Appaloosas. She won many classes at Breed and Open Shows, including Furturity Championships and Year end High Points. In 2002 at the Appaloosa World Championships under the guidance of World Champion trainers Rob and Christy King, she earned a Reserve World Championship title in Non Pro Yealing Halter Geldings and won the World Championship Limited Non Pro Halter Futurity. In 2003 she swept many titles and Championships again with her horses through ApHC, Acaap, CSHA, and CWA. For the five years after that Jennifer spent time on her own ranch buying and selling prospects for herself as well as friends. She then moved to Tucson, AZ and started her Professional training career once again. Jennifer now resides on 5 serene desert acres on the Northwest side of Tucson. She offers boarding as well as training and instruction on and off her facility. Please visit the Service Page to see how she can help you.
